Welcome back to Selections, a series of artist-curated playlists from those in the know.

As an artist and composer, John Carroll Kirby‘s body of work covers vast ground – from exploring the edges of new age jazz and playing with electronic and funk influences, to writing instrumental piano compositions. As a well-loved session player and producer, he’s extended that work further through collaborations with artists including Solange, Remi Wolf, Frank Ocean and Tyler, the Creator, lending his talents and taste to genres across the musical spectrum. A common thread runs throughout, though: Kirby’s sound may feel effortless and meandering, but it’s sharp, precise and meticulously crafted.

For his Selections, the artist digs into his wide pool of influences, with a focus on tracks that lift and revive. “This is music that has been inspiring me lately,” he says, “music that puts me in a good mood.”
