Welcome back to Selections, a series of artist-curated playlists from those in the know.

Finnish-Uruguayan DJ, musician and producer Sunny Seppä – better known as Sansibar – defies easy categorisation. Whether in the studio or behind the decks, he moves fluidly across genres including techno, electro, trance, minimal and breaks, guided by an open-minded approach that values curiosity and experimentation. The artist’s music has found a home on labels like Avoidance Records, Kalahari Oyster Cult, Natural Sciences, and his own imprint, Sin Sistema, and while his forward-facing sound has been rooted in Helsinki, Sansibar’s influence stretches far beyond.

Here, he compiles an introduction to Finnish dance music – a scene he knows intimately. “This is a highly recommended collection of old, new, and up-and-coming Finnish-affiliated dance music,” he explains, “ambient, dub and beyond.”

“Many of these artists have performed or are set to perform at my favourite festival – Solstice,” he adds. “A few artist tips for this year’s line-up include Cucina Povera (Luxos), Denzel (founder of the Solstice Festival), and Nikolajev (of Weak People), who is behind LLL, as well as Hän a.k.a. Ysi-just, to name a few.”

Sansibar will play Solstice Festival, which takes place between 19-21 June in Ruka, Finland.
