Welcome back to Selections, a series of artist-curated playlists from those in the know.

Surgeon is something of a UK techno legend. A beacon of innovation within the genre, under his creative alias as Surgeon, Anthony Child rose to prominence in the early 1990s within his home scene in Birmingham and has spent the past three decades shaping a distinct sonic identity. One that blends raw industrial textures with intricate rhythms and haunting melodies.

Earlier this year, Surgeon returned with his first full-length album in five years via Tresor Records – releasing Crash Recoil in March – and more recently contributed to Birmingham techno imprint House Of God’s compilation. On the latter, Surgeon contributed a new track entitled Should Really Know Better By Now, tapping into the heady, heavy techno grit he’s become known for over the years.

Ahead of heading to the scenic surrounds Viana Do Castelo for Neopop Festival next month – where he’s slated to play a live set – Surgeon curates a playlist filled with plenty of deep dancefloor cuts. Get locked into Surgeon’s Selections below, including tracks from Timedance boss Batu, Metrist and Al Wooton plus a dub edit of Panda Bear and Sonic Boom and Olof Dreijer’s recent Hessle Audio debut.

Surgeon plays Neopop Festival, Viana Do Castelo, on 10-12 August
