Toronto might be most readily associated with globe-straddling megastars, but a cursory look beyond the hype will reveal the city is also home to a thriving underground rife with DIY promoters subverting the otherwise stratified club scene.
Amongst these, Bambii is one of the most exciting. Her formidable skills as a selector, honed at her club night JERK – an anything-goes party pulling together a broad strata of electronic music in a LGBTQ-friendly environment with an onus on inclusivity and affordability – have made her one of the city’s most in demand DJs.
More recently, Bambii has been globetrotting as Mykki Blanco’s tour DJ as well as clocking up solo gigs across Europe for like-minded promoters such as Progress Bar at Amsterdam’s Paradiso (‘the only political party you can dance to’), where she played alongside Crack Mix alumnus Endgame.
Bambii’s Crack Mix is a thrilling affair from the off: forty minutes of high-octane, neck-snapping club music that proves exactly why she’s one of the most singular artists out.
