Horse Meat Disco
As one of the most iconic and widely-recognised queer parties this side of the turn of the millenium, Horse Meat Disco’s genesis story is a well-known one.
Started as a back-to-basics party set up in opposition to an otherwise superficial and sometimes cynical clubbing landscape has bloomed into a bona fide institution, with James Hillard, Jim Stanton, Luke Howard and Severino accruing an international reputation as one of the most consistently exciting DJ collectives out.
With a number of acclaimed comps released via Strut and a small but reliably ace catalog of re-edits produced in partnership with long-time collaborator Felix Dickinson giving form to their eponymous label, the collective’s enthusiasm and reverence for their namesake permeates every aspect of their output.
Horse Meat Disco’s mix for Crack is, as expected, a joy. Put together by James Hillard, it sticks to the chuggier BPMs rather than peak-time clouters and sounds all the more sumptuous for it. Plug in and enjoy.
Horse Meat Disco play at Dimensions Festival, Croatia on 30 August – 3 September; and Sunfall’s Night Session at Brockwell Park, London on 12 August
