Selections: Batu

Welcome back to Selections, a series of exclusive artist-curated Spotify playlists from those in the know.

Bristol producer Batu, otherwise known as Omar McCutcheon is the rhythm scientist at the helm of the UK label Timedance. Known for bringing a surge of innovation to his home city via his future-facing imprint, McCutcheon – along with a close circle of friends including producers Bruce, Ploy and Lurka – is making bass-driven dance music detailed with complex polyrhythms in a style that’s fresh, and distinctly Bristol.

This week, McCutcheon comes through with an exclusive playlist for Crack Magazine that’s made up of slices of reggae, hip-hop and dancehall, cut through with a swelling, euphoric club ballad from SOPHIE and sumptuous textures mixed with bouncy rhythms from PAN signee Toxe. Describing his selections as the music he likes to listen to in his home, this playlist provides some insight into the producer’s mindset when enjoying some downtime. Hit play.

Batu plays at Dimensions Festival, Croatia, 29 August to 2 September
