Selections: Dana Ruh

Welcome back to Selections, a series of exclusive artist-curated playlists from those in the know.

Born and raised in Gera, the third largest city in Germany’s Thuringia state, the now Berlin-based DJ and producer has steadily established her rep over the last decade, putting out loosies, EPs and collaborations via a selection of respected labels including Cocoon and Ostgut Ton. Her first, and only, full-length – entitled Naturally – landed on Jus Ed’s Underground Quality imprint in 2014 and her latest release dropped earlier this year in March: a three-track EP called Round 2 Reel via her own imprint, Cave Recordings. Aside from crafting timeless and emotive productions, Ruh runs the label Brouquade, alongside her own distribution and label management company.

We’re excited, then, to have Dana Ruh on board for an exclusive playlist, for which she selects a handful of tracks featuring the grooves that underpin her work. There’s soothing melodies from Alicia Keys, Lauryn Hill, Sade, sleek house numbers and cinematic, widescreen sonics from Björk amongst cuts of soft jazz, funk and soul. One for those tranquil evenings winding down from the day.

Dana Ruh plays at Melt Festival, Germany, 13-15 July
