Selections: Essaie Pas

Welcome back to Selections, a series of exclusive artist-curated Spotify playlists from those in the know.

Essaie Pas – which Google tells us is, roughly, French for “Don’t try” – are a Montreal electronic duo composed of producers Marie Davidson and Pierre Guerineau. Signed to DFA Records, they unleashed a luxurious suite of moonlit minimal synth compositions last year with their fourth album, Demain Est Une Autre Nuit which we described as a “much flawless exercise in electro-disco decadence.” Watch the band’s latest video for new track Futur parlé here.

They are gearing up to release a new LP on DFA next year and to give you an idea of the sounds which are informing their process, they put together this suitably shadowy playlist of tracks covering peripheral dancefloor sounds and otherworldly electronic excursions. The playlist features tracks by Avalon Emerson, Rabit, M.E.S.H., James Ferraro, Kara-Lis Coverdale and more.

Watch Marie Davidson’s hypnotic live set from this year’s Simple Things Festival now via Crack TV.

Essaie Pas play The Pickle Factory, London for Ovation on Thursday 23 November. Find more info and tickets here.
