Selections: Jayda G

Welcome back to Selections, a series of exclusive artist-curated Spotify playlists from those in the know.

By now, you should’ve heard of Jayda G. The Vancouver selector has been gaining a reputation for injecting the often-serious dance scene with a healthy dose of fun, turning up disco, funk, soul and proto-house grooves on the decks – and her formula works, too, with festival crowds and dancefloors often heaving. In an interview with Crack Magazine earlier this year she said, “The most important thing, at least when it comes to DJ sets, is that I come across as genuine. People can be pretentious sometimes, and I don’t want anyone to feel that way when they come to my show. I want them to dance and have a good time and really be themselves. That makes it worth it in the end.”

In between her busy festival schedule, the Canadian artist heads up her own show, JMG Sessions, at NTS and earlier this year, kickstarted her new imprint, JMG Recordings, with a debut release called Sacred Spacesfeaturing three original house tracks. Aside from her solo flex, she’s teamed up with DJ Fett Burger to co-run the label Freakout Cult.

In typical Jayda G style, she turns in a summer-primed playlist for Crack. The theme? “This is the perfect antidote to those feeling the early festival season burn!” Featuring soothing numbers, funk, jazz and soul – this one’s made for searing hot, skin-baring temperatures outside.

Jayda G plays at Paradise City, Belgium, 29 June to 1 July
