Selections: Pariah
Welcome back to Selections, a series of exclusive artist-curated Spotify playlists from those in the know.
After a promising emergence at the height of post-dubstep, London-based Scotland-born producer Arthur Cayzer released his first full-length, Here from Where We Are, in July this year. The hiatus led to a sonic transfiguration; filled with ambient soundscapes, the producer described the LP as “an honest reflection of himself”. His work morphed from early singles, like the R&S released 10” Detroit Falls, into a sound built upon dainty arpeggiators and modulated vocal lines that recall Oneohtrix Point Never’s Replica.
It’s fitting, then, that 0PN features on Cayzer’s playlist for Crack’s Selections series via the track Toys 2. As well as nods to 0PN and other artists who share a similar hereditary to himself (think Laurel Halo and qgb), there’s some curveballs thrown in for good measure, too. From American folk singer Collie Ryan to Colin Stetson, Sarah Neufeld to Jonny Greenwood’s Phantom Thread score, the choices are musically disparate yet interwoven with an almost celestial beauty; a warmth that mirrors his own productions.
Pariah appears at Stone Island presents London on 4 November. Here from Where We Are is out now on Houndstooth.
