Grimes has previewed what appears to be a new track. The Miss Anthropocene artist shared a song snippet during a live stream launch event for the Grimes Metaverse Discord server last week (17 June).
Grimes’ new song is supposedly titled Shinigami Eyes. The title references Japanese manga series Death Note, as well as the time Grimes claimed to have undergone experimental eye film surgery. In the preview, Grimes sings: “Are you ready to die / Got my shinigami eyes on / Everything is fine / Got my shinigami eyes on.” Listen to the snippet below.

In 2019, Grimes tweeted that she had shinigami eyes, writing: “I got shinigami eyes. It cost me half my life span but now I can see the true name of everyone and when they will die. Only the real will ones will understand.”

Grimes’ last release – a rave-driven Miss Anthropocene remix album – arrived on on New Year’s Day (1 January). The project featured reworks from the likes of Richie Hawtin, Channel Tres, Modeselektor, ANNA, BloodPop® and more. However, Grimes has hinted at new music – and a new album – on several occasions. Following last week’s release date announcement for video game Elden Ring, for example, she joked that she would have to “cancel my album in order to play this game.”
