In honour of Josh Homme’s addition to YSL’s Music Project roster, we round up the most iconic musician-led fashion campaigns

A smouldering Josh Homme has been captured on film by Yves Saint Laurent for their ongoing Music Project. While Homme is the most recent addition to the Silmane-shot black-and-white affair, YSL have also featured artists as diverse as Courtney Love, Marilyn Manson and B.B. King in the project’s past campaigns.

Here are some more artists that have used their gorgeous faces to sell some clothes and stuff.

The rapper that famously stated ‘not smiling makes me smile’ fitted perfectly into the sullen world of high-fashion modelling when he modelled some of the most expensive hoodies in the world for Balmain.

Kim Kardash also starred in this lavish campaign (seemingly set in the classiest NCP car park ever.)

Iceberg

Fashion chameleon and all-round rad person Mykki Blanco featured in Iceberg’s 70s-themed SS15 campaign this year. The rapper and performance artist took the role alongside other noted luminaries including Kim Gordon and Glenn O’Brien.

John Varvatos

Move over Miley – Billy Joe Armstrong did the Wrecking Ball thing first. Frolicking around the roof of a high-rise with no thought for the hearts of their mothers, they really put the ‘high’ into ‘high fashion’ with this campaign. Haw, haw, haw.

DKNY for Opening Ceremony

Taking time out of her usual role as member of dance project Hercules and the Love Affair, Foxman got her 90s streetwear on with a bunch of other beautiful people in DKNY’s campaign when they teamed up with Opening Ceremony.

Evian Christ, Kelela and Dev Hynes

Calvin Klein

CK One’s 2014 advert features a load of sexy people doing sexy things in their pants, including Blood Orange’s Dev Hynes, Crack cover star Kelela, and Evian Christ having a little lie-down on a bar.

Cavalli

Pete scrubs up amazingly well in this Cavalli campaign and is a not only a fantastic advert for Cavalli’s hats, but also for blokes in makeup in general.

In case you didn’t know, Cher has the best Twitter feed on the internet. Also, at 69, she’s Marc Jacobs’ newest oldest muse.

Dior

Ri-Ri absolutely smashes the style game wherever she trots. Here she is in Versailles for Dior acting like she owns the joint (which, considering how great she looks in it, she probably should.)
