Our March roundup of mixes is here.
Welcome back to our regular list of the best mixes released across the internet. Industrial book clubs, mammoth club sets, radio in the classic mould and acid-rave shell-downs are all in the roll call this month, as is another reason to thank your lucky stars that you exist on the same astral plane as Eris Drew.
First, a moment for Andrew Weatherall who passed away aged 56 midway through February. The last time we saw him DJ he was as mindblowing as the first, and there are few figures to have made such a profound impact in the electronic scene. Read our full-length tribute to the artist and listen to a mix of his tracks here. Another loved figure, Alex T, also left us this year. A DJ very much at the beginning of his journey, our respects are paid to him in this roundup.
Physical Therapy & CCL
Live at High & TightTwo of the finest spinners on the west side of the Atlantic go back-to-back at Seattle party High & Tight. H&T is renowned for giving DJs the space to dig into a journey and dancers the inclination to join them, and Physical Therapy and CCL don’t disappoint. At three hours long it’s a slow burn, but as the intensity ratchets with each percussive jam don’t expect to sit still.
Eris Drew
Dekmantel Podcast 270Any recording by Eris Drew is cause for celebration, much as any party where you’ll find her channelling the energy of the Motherbeat. For Dekmantel’s podcast series she cuts and scratches proggy workouts and transcendent bursts of light into an exultant celebration. One to get the blood pumping for dark rooms, smoke and lights, or indeed to drag you from an early-week slump. She is a gift we must cherish.
Anu w/ LA Timpa & Parris
BBC Asian Network ResidencyAnu, as well as being a fantastic club DJ, is one of the finest radio DJs/hosts in the capital right now. Her NTS shows are a must-listen and the extra resources afforded by her current stint as a BBC Asian Network resident have seen her step up once again. Selections in ambient pop and R&B are followed by a candid interview and session with Toronto musician LA Timpa and a killer guest mix from Parris. Classic radio of the highest order.

FAUZIA
Discwoman 87The newest addition to the Discwoman roster marks the occasion with a mix built entirely from her own productions and edits. FAUZIA’s tracks have yet to really be heard by the world and it’s exciting to hear just how good they are. There’s a variety of moods beyond the 160 BPM fare her and the rest of the 6 Figure Gang are renowned for, but there’s no let-up in intensity. Expect to see much more of young Londoner.
Posthuman
Bang Face is for the Hardest PeopleNobody loves a 303 quite like Posthuman, and a mix in honour of neo-rave Mecca, Bang Face, is the perfect place for the UK duo’s thunderous rave cacophony. Get ready for a weekend of stupid costumes, breakneck BPMs and a permanent neon stain on the corneas with this masterclass in euphoric acid and breakbeats.
Khotin
Melbourne Deepcast 240Vancouver’s Khotin steps up for the consistently gorgeous Melbourne Deepcast here, languidly stretching out over 90 minutes with a deep but propulsive mix. Khotin’s production catalogue, particularly the sun-soaked atmospherics of last year’s Beautiful You LP, make him an ideal candidate for the series, though the bounce of this set is something out of the ordinary from him. One to relax into for deep concentration or easy company.
Rupert Clervaux & Isis O'Regan
Tanzen Und DenkenThis is the first in a series of collaborations between experimental musician Rupert Clervaux and activist and writer Isis O’Reagan (one of the brains behind the abortion rights campaign group and party Room 4 Rebellion). Find them both playing a mixture of angular soundscapes and metallic industrial beats while performing readings and playing spoken extracts for a kind of audio book club. An arresting experience from start to finish.
Oli XL
NTS 24.02.20Swedish producer Oli XL embarks on a new regular series at NTS. XL’s productions have been making waves with a laser-sharp take on the breakbeat tradition, while tracks like Clumsy (a re-imagining of Beck’s Loser as a spacey, sub-heavy stepper) have given him low-key crossover appeal. This show speaks to the same impulses by marrying a pop sensibility with knotty club textures: BFTT as natural in the mix as Madonna.
limitbreak!
Daisychain 108Trippy emotional cuts and violent bursts of energy vie for attention in this mix by limitbreak! As the intensity builds so too does the sense of hypnosis, leaving us wanting to know more about the DC-based selector. The Daisychain podcast is definitely worth digging into further as well, with more than two years and 100 mixes under their belt making for an impressive catalogue.
Alex T
Rinse FM w/ ionaIn January one of the brightest figures in UK dance music passed at a devastatingly young age. The outpouring of love and grief for Alex T came from all corners, those close to him and those with whom he who crossed paths just once alike. Even knowing just a little of his passion for music would tell you that his is a presence the world of music is worse off without. His series of shows on Rinse FM are a testament to his skills and love of the craft, and with the latest of these we find him, as usual, using his platform to champion another DJ on the rise.
