Welcome back to Selections, a series of artist-curated playlists from those in the know.

DJ, producer and sound artist Luca Mucci, better known as Piezo, is next up in the series, curating a Buy Music Club playlist filled with enticing and experimental electronic music from Milan, where he is based.

On a typical project, such as March’s Odd Hooks EP for his own label Ansia, Mucci favours an off-kilter approach to club music that’s grounded by his knack for the finer details – and informed by his background in sound design, as well as other cities, largely Bristol, he’s previously called home. There’s a certainty to his work as Piezo that shines through too, creating a signature, of sorts, even as he veers between ideas and genres.

Here, Mucci crafts an immersive, vivid and stylistically untethered playlist that gets to the heart of “crazy” sounds permeating his hometown. “I decided to showcase the immense amount of talent currently present in Milan,” he tells Crack Magazine. “Although the more experimental side of the electronic music scene in Milan is quite fragmented at the moment – especially after Covid and the closure of the Macao [community space/cultural centre] squat – there is definitely a common thread of crazy sound design-infused music in the city.”

“Sometimes playful, psychedelic and quite abstract, [and] sometimes dark, harsh and more dancefloor-oriented,” he elaborates. “Compared to some of the artists and labels included in this playlist, I operate within a much more defined framework – but still, my output on Ansia has been massively influenced by the same approach, techniques and attitude, as you can hear in my latest release, Odd Hooks.”
