Welcome back to Selections, a series of artist-curated playlists from those in the know.

Today’s playlist comes courtesy of DJ, producer and curator Rebecca Vasmant, whose 2021 debut album With Love, From Glasgow shined a light on the fecund Glaswegian jazz community. Rich, warm and uplifting from start to finish, the 11-track record was both a feast for the ears and timely snapshot of vibrant scene.

Vasmant’s Selections entry offers a similar experience as it weaves through jazz, jazz-tinged electronic music and other soulful sounds from the likes of Theon Cross, Chaos In The CBD, Al Dobson Jr. and Peven Everett. The playlist features just some of the records she has enjoyed playing out at clubs and festivals across the UK and Europe in recent years – either solo or as part of the Rebecca Vasmant Ensemble. She’ll be performing as the latter at a number of forthcoming events, including the debut edition of Otherlands Music & Arts Festival at Scotland’s historic Scone Palace.

“It never fails to amaze me how much amazing new music is coming out of the UK at the moment. I feel that we are at a point in history that will be looked back on and remembered forever, especially with jazz and jazz-inspired electronic music,” says Vasmant, who describes herself as “both a jazz and a house music and electronic fan”.

Continuing, she adds: “I always feel very privileged and lucky to have had the pleasure of discovering the music I have, so it’s a real pleasure to share some of this with the world.”
