Selections: Club Kuru

Welcome back to Selections, a series of exclusive artist-curated Spotify playlists from those in the know.

Originally initiated as a solo project by Bristol-based musician Laurie Erskine, Club Kuru has since expanded to become a psych-rock five-piece band with a string of EPs – All the Days, Layla and Waiting At the Cornerreleased under their name. 2018 has been a landmark year for the group too, with the release of their debut Giving In landing in March.

We asked the psychedelic crooners to give us some insight into their inspiration, and they’ve come through with a playlist that runs in a similar vein to their sounds. Merging the old with the new, it’s romantic, swooning and dreamy all at once, featuring tracks by Jane Birkin, Khruangbin, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Marvin Gaye and Neil Young. A perfect soundtrack for those languid, sun-drenched afternoons by the coast.

Club Kuru will perform at the JagerHaus at All Points East, London, 25 May to 3 June
