Selections: Justin Cudmore

Welcome back to Selections, a series of exclusive artist-curated Spotify playlists from those in the know.

Brooklyn-based talent Justin Cudmore is an artist on the rise. Emerging from the New York underground, Cudmore’s dancefloor-primed acid house selections have seen him infiltrate the uppermost tier of the club underground. Armed with a sound that’s unmistakably his own, his reputation has quickly spread internationally, bolstered by well-received sets at Panorama Bar.

Still, it’s in his adopted home of NYC where he’s really making an impact. Having started his musical training as a jazz percussionist at school, he became immersed in the rave scene during university. Upon moving to New York, he connected with The Bunker and Honey Soundsystem’s HNYTRX imprint. An encounter with The Bunker’s Mike Servito also led to the pair forming the DJ trifecta Hot Mix with Gunnar Haslam. Now, the on-the-rise artist steps up for Crack Magazine’s Selections series with a tracklist of “vibey openers, closers and a few peak-time jams” that lean more towards tranquil listening.

“Recently I’ve been finding inspiration outside of aggressive sounds to help inform moods and melodies in my own productions,” Cudmore says. “When DJing, I’m usually playing more high energy club sets so it was cool to put together something from my daily playlists that I use for commuting around NYC and when traveling. I’m always seeking tracks that set the the right mood for myself or for opening a room. It is a never ending hunt.”
