Selections: nd_baumecker

Welcome back to Selections, a series of exclusive artist-curated playlists from those in the know.

Berlin-based producer nd_baumecker is one who needs little introduction. The Panorama Bar resident and Freundinnen label head first cut his teeth by DJing regularly in bars and clubs across Frankfurt am Main. Bringing his broad tastes to a bar called Romantica in the early 90s, it was his boundary-free selections – spinning across disco, electro, techno and minimal – that got him noticed by those at the helm of German label Playhouse, leading to a position at the record store Delirium and later a residency at Club Nachtleben. However, it was in 2004 that the producer decided to take his mixing to Berlin; upping sticks to the German capital, he swapped Frankfurt am Main’s’s techno scene for a residency at Berghain and teamed up with Sam Barker (aka Voltek), to make his debut on Ostgut Ton with the collaborative, techno LP Transsektoral.

An expert digger and hardware enthusiast, Baumecker steps up for our Selections series, in which he chooses a tracklist that’s built for the summer ‘floor, featuring warm, house grooves with atmospheres that range from springy to heavy-lidded. The song title Heatwave says it all.

nd_baumecker plays at Her Damit, Germany, 7-10 September
