Selections: Waajeed
Welcome back to Selections, a series of exclusive artist-curated Spotify playlists from those in the know.
Waajeed – also known as one half of hip-hop duo Platinum Pied Pipers – pulls as much from the synthetic aggression and computerised sexuality of Dopplereffekt as he does Diana Ross. A Detroit native, it’s on his home turf that he developed an interest in Underground Resistance’s futuristic vision, as well as Kraftwerk.
Stepping up for Crack Magazine’s Selections series, the producer curates a tracklist of cuts that’ve made a mark, and informed his forthcoming LP From the Dirt. Crystal Waters’ Gypsy Woman acquainted him with house, Jay Rock’s ES Tales is a reminder to “not sleep in the era of this devil Trump”, and Terrence Parker’s Love’s Got Me High was the soundtrack to his Friday nights.
On the inclusion of Dopplereffekt’s Superior Race, he writes to us via email, “This is funk on drugs. It’s raw, new and exciting over a decade since its release.” Hit play below.
Waajeed plays at Movement Torino, Italy, 12-13 October
