Burial’s new record for XL Recordings has a name, Dreamfear, and a supposed release date

A mainstay of Kode9’s Hyperdub, the artist’s solo debut for the west London label is expected to land on 9 February.

A previously teased new release from Burial via XL Recordings has seemingly been confirmed after listings for a new white label appeared online, via select record stores such as Phonica. Titled Dreamfear, the 12″ record features a title track and B-side cut named The Boy Who Never Turned Up. The limited, white label drop was marketed as “very limited” with copies strictly one per customer. The two-tracker is predicted to be released on 9 February. See a promotional flyer below.

XL Recordings has now (18 January) officially announced the new release, sharing that Dreamfear / Boy Sent From Above will be released as expected on 9 February on 12″ vinyl and digital. Pre-order the vinyl and merch here, and check out the artwork below via XL’s Instagram, which now sports the Burial logo in its profile picture.

Earlier this month, XL Recordings shared two clips to social media teasing new music from the elusive artist. Burial previously worked with XL Recordings on his Four Tet and Thom Yorke collaboration Her Revolution/ His Rope, which came out in 2020. This year also marks the 20th anniversary of Hyperdub, who put out Burial’s Mercury-nominated album Untrue alongside other releases including his 2022 projects Antidawn and Streetlands. Last summer, Kode9 and Burial released a split single on fabric’s in-house fabric Originals label.

Revisit our anniversary tribute to Burial’s seminal second album Untrue, featuring words and thoughts from Nia Archives, Mala, George FitzGerald and more.

Update, 18 January: This story was updated at 15:19 GMT to include a pre-order link and artwork for the forthcoming release, upon its official announcement
