Listen to a playlist of “deeply felt tunes” from Russell E.L. Butler
Welcome back to Selections, a series of artist-curated playlists from those in the know.
There’s a rich connectivity that courses through Russell E.L. Butler’s productions. An essence which also provides a unifying thread with the community-focus of T4T LUV NRG – Eris Drew and Octo Octa’s label on which Butler has just released their latest album, Call Me G.
Based in Brooklyn, the DJ and producer’s tracks unfurl as meditative and poetic vignettes filled with life, both in the aching loneliness and weight of existence and in a utopian envisaging rooted in connection. Butler’s soundworld acts as home for these expressions, with Call Me G intertwining NY house and dub techno with atmospheric modular synths, conveying a sound that is at once ethereal and earthy.
The deep emotivity that Butler pours into their work is tangible in their playlist selections here. Featuring the likes of KeiyaA, 8ULENTINA and Laraaji, they describe this as “a breadth of deeply felt tunes that move the body in many ways.” Listen below.
